Richard “Dick” Simmons, 68, of Loring Road, passed away at home Wednesday, March 26. He was the husband of Virginia (Polvere) Simmons. He was he son of the late Domenic “Pepsi” and Mary (Bullock) Simmons.
Mr. Simmons grew up in Bristol and graduated from Colt Memorial High School, Class of 1963. After serving in the Coast Guard, he came home and became the purchasing director for University of Massachusetts, Boston, retired in March 2002 and enjoyed his retirement for the last 12 years. He built a winter log cabin home and kept his Bristol home neat and in “Bristol Fashon.” Spoiling the grandchildren was one of his passions and he was their “special friend,” keeping them constantly entertained. Mr. Simmons was the designated “saver of the spot” on Fourth of July morning.
Mr. Simmons is survived by his wife Virginia, son Scott and his wife Anna of Wayland, Mass., daughter Heather and her husband Joseph of Lexington, SC; grandchildren Sofia Simmons, Harrison Elliott, Gavin Elliot; and his sisters Carol and her husband James Tondra, Kathy and her husband Dodd Schock, both of Warwick.
A funeral service will be held on Saturday, March 29, 2-6 p.m. from the George Lima Funeral Home, 367 High St., Bristol. All are invited to attend and share some of their memories with his friends and family.
