Born in Fall River, a daughter of the late Joseph and Elvira (Teves) Venancio, she was a graduate of BMC Durfee High School, Class of 1960 and attended Fitchburg State College and the Burbank Hospital School of Nursing.
Upon graduating with a bachelor of science in nursing in 1964, she joined the faculty of Union Hospital School of Nursing. She later taught at the Columbus Children’s Hospital School of Nursing. Earning a masters degree in parent/child nursing from Boston University, she took a position at Bristol Community College’s nursing program in 1970 where she remained for 33 years, attaining the rank of professor.
This past spring, the college bestowed upon her the honor of Professor Emerita of Nursing. She enjoyed playing the violin, and her true passion was roaming the far corners of the world with the California-based Blue Collar travelers. During these trips, she became involved in promoting and supporting education for girls in Zimbabwe.
She was the devoted mother of Elizabeth Heaton, Dennis Michael Heaton and the late Patrick Carlyle Heaton, sister of Kevin Venancio and grandmother of Jack Murphy.
Her funeral was held Tuesday, Oct. 16, at 8:30 a.m. from the Waring-Sullivan Home of Memorial Tribute at Cherry Place, Fall River, followed by a funeral Mass at 10 in St. John the Baptist Church, Westport.
