Obit-alvesMr. Manuel L. Alves, III,age 74 of Mason Avenue, Bristol, died Wednesday, May 15, 2013 at the Philip Hulitar Inpatient Care Center, Providence.  Manuel was the husband of the late Mary I. (Duarte) Alves his wife of 50 years.  Born in Bristol, he was a son of the late Manuel L. Alves, Jr. and Mabel (Mello) Alves.  Manuel worked for the RI Veterans Home retiring after 30 years in 1989 as the head chef.  He also worked as a driver and landscaper for Judge Joslin, and did lawn mower repair. He attended Bristol Schools, he was a communicant of St. Elizabeth’s Church.  He served in the US Army Reserves for 16 years in the 381st Chemical Battalion.  Hobbies included raising rabbits and pigeons.  Manuel is survived by his four children, Manuel (Elsie) Alves of Bristol, Kevin Alves of California, Lori (Ray) Thibeault of Portsmouth and Brian Alves of Mongague, Mass.

Seven grandchildren, Joshua (Amy) Alves of Bangor, Maine, Rebekah (James) Alves Ekekwe, onboard Africa Mercy-Conakry, Guinea, Jacob (Jenn) Alves of Gorham, Maine, Jeremiah Alves of Bristol, Evan Thibeault of Portsmouth and Anthony, Samuel Alves of Worcester, Mass. Five great grandchildren: Lilly, Haley, Gabriel and Emma Alves of Bangor, Maine and Ryan, Bethany Alves of Gorham, Maine. He is also survived by his brother, David (Josephine) Alves of Bristol and his sister, Elaine (Ralph) Ferrara of Bristol.

Funeral services from the Sansone Funeral Home were held May 20, 2013 with a Mass of Christian Burial at St. Elizabeth’s Church, Bristol.  Burial was be private.
