obit - amleidaLydia (Sousa) Almeida, 86, of Wood Street, passed away on April 19. She was the wife of the late Dennis Almeida.

Born in Relva, St. Michael, Azores, she was the daughter of the late Manuel and Maria dos Anjos (Sousa) Martins. She is survived by her daughters Natalie Taylor and Geri (Joseph) Pirri, both of Bristol; grandchildren Kimberly, Ryan, Michael, Kenneth, Robert and great granddaughter Taylor. She was the sister of the late Jose Martins, Maria das Neves Sousa Martins, Afonso Martins, Adelina Soares and Natalia Cordeiro.

Lydia worked at Priscilla Sportswear before working for the Bristol School Department for 25 years. She was a member of the Tuesday night prayer group at St Elizabeth Church and accompanied the choir as a musician.

Her funeral services were held April 23 from the George Lima Funeral Home with a Mass of Christian Burial celebrated by Rev. Richard Narciso at St. Elizabeth Church. The liturgical readings were by Kimberly Taylor Hirschfeld and Ryan Taylor. The Prayer of the Faithful was read by Steven Paiva.The offertory gifts were presented by Mary Kennedy, Lori Tabisz and Mary Paiva. Burial followed in St. Mary’s Cemetery. Serving as pallbearers were Ryan Taylor, Michael Reis, Kenneth Johnson, Robert Johnson, Archie Martins and Gilbert Martins.
