Lorraine M. Couto of Fall River and formerly of Tiverton passed away on Sunday, Oct. 14, 2012. She was the widow of Louis “Martin” Couto. Together they owned and operated the Martinique in the Narrows and later several businesses in the Flint Section of Fall River.
Born in Fall River, she was the daughter of the late Wilfred and Lydia (Bernier) Pain and the sister of Roland and the late Normand Pain.
Lorraine leaves two children, Richard L. Couto of Woodstock, NH, and Nancy C. Tavares of Tiverton. She is also survived by four grandchildren, Kristine (and her husband Mark) Lowney, Michelle (and her husband Tom) Tormey, Richard M. Couto, and Louis (and his wife Erika) Tavares. She also leaves nine great-grandchildren, Zachary, Brennan, Ariana, Ashton and Zoe Lowney, Olivia, Victoria and Ava Tormey and Kyla Regan Tavares. She is also survived by several nieces and nephews.
Helping others was important to Lorraine and she spent many years volunteering at the Union Hospital (now Southcoast) and later as a patient advocate at Saint Anne’s Hospital.
In keeping with her warm and loving nature, in lieu of flowers, do a kind deed in her memory – she would have liked that.
After cremation, a private interment will be held at St. Patrick’s Cemetery in Fall River.
Arrangements are with the Pocasset Memorial Funeral Home, 462 Main Road, Tiverton.
