He was born in Washington, D.C., the son of the late Carroll and Doris (Brown) Shartle. He was raised in Columbus, Ohio and lived in New York City and in Bristol before moving to Fairhaven 23 years ago.
Mr. Shartle was the proprietor of Len Shartle Sculpture Studio in New Bedford, Mass. He was a graduate of Defiance College and studied at the Arts Student League of New York.
He has exhibited his sculpture internationally and was commissioned by the Town of Bristol to create the monument “Discovery” at Independence Park.
Survivors include his wife; his beloved daughter, Czarina Shartle of Fairhaven; a brother, Alex Shartle and his wife Nancy of Dayton, Ohio; and many dear relatives and friends.
His funeral Mass was celebrated on Monday, Oct. 15, in Our Lady of the Assumption Church, New Bedford. Burial followed in St. Mary’s Cemetery, New Bedford. For on-line condolence book, please visit www.saundersdwyer.com.
