Leonard B. Colt Jr., 76, formerly of Little Compton, died in Providence on Wednesday, Sept. 26, 2012. Born in Fall River to Joan Borden Colt and Leonard B. Colt, he was raised in Providence.
After graduating from the Salisbury School and Middlebury College, he served in the US Army for two years. A sales representative for Reed and Barton Silversmiths, he became president and owner of Bruin Paper Box in 1971. In the 1980s, he moved into independent sales and marketing consultancy.
Leonard served on the boards of the Jewelers’ Shipping Association, Organic Sales and Marketing Inc., Trinity Repertory Company, Preserve Rhode Island and the Little Compton Agricultural Trust and was a Deacon at the Union Congregational Church in Little Compton. He was a former member of the Hope Club, the Little Compton Golf Club and the Sakonnet Yacht Club.
He leaves his wife of 55 years, Rosemary Mizener Colt; three children, Ames Borden Colt, Rosemary Paris Colt and Nicholas Rege-Colt and their spouses, as well as seven grandchildren, and three sisters, Sarah Colt, Joan Hooper and Katharine Boden.
A devoted family man and a loyal friend who will be much missed, Leonard displayed courage and grace in his years of declining health.
A memorial service will be held at the Union Congregational Church in Leonard’s beloved Little Compton on October 19 at 11 a.m. Memorial gifts may be given to the Sakonnet Landscape Fund of the Nature Conservancy of Rhode Island, 159 Waterman Street, Providence RI 02906.
