Kathleen Brito Nelson, 87, of Tucson, Ariz., passed away on Sept. 6, 2013.
She was born in Bristol on Sept. 3, 1926.
She is survived by her sons Adam Foster Nelson, Scott Laurence (Donna) Nelson and grandchildren Cameron Laurence and Megan Lynn Nelson all of Oro Valley, Ariz.
They remember Kathleen (Hurricane Kat) as a thoughtful, caring and loving mother, awesome grandmother and friend. She leaves behind her brother, Joseph Brito Sr., of Bristol and numerous nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her husband Lawrence O. Nelson, parents Ceasar and Georgiana (Travers) Brito, and her sister Evelyn Brito Cataldo.
She was a graduate of Colt Memorial High School in Bristol and Boston University, the American Russian Ballet School and Bryant College. Kathleen was an accomplished professional dancer and performed in New York City and various venues on the East Coast. She taught Physical Education in Connecticut and Dance in West Lafayette, Ind.
Kathleen relocated with her family to Tucson in 1974 and started a new career in the travel industry. In 1983, she and her family started the successful enterprise Avenues to Travel, in Tucson. As owner, she participated in many travel industry organizations.
A Memorial Mass will be held at St. Elizabeth’s Church, 577 Wood St. in Bristol at 9 a.m., on Sunday, Sept. 29, 2013.
