Born and raised in New Bedford, MA, to the late Jamie C. and Mary G.(Pereira) Maiato, he attended schools there and was a United States Marine Corps veteran.
Joe’s passion in life was the automobile industry, working throughout Massachusetts and Rhode Island. He was the owner and operator of Joe’s Car’s Plus in Swansea for several years, retiring due to his illness. Joe’s family would like to offer a special thanks to the Oncology Unit, nurses, CNAs, emergency room personnel and doctors who gave him such loving care at the Providence VA Hospital, Home & Hospice Care of Rhode Island and the Community Nurses of Bristol County.
He was the loving father of Bethany Maiato and James Maiato and his wife Christine; a devoted grandfather to Mason, Domenic, Jordan and Bryce; and brother of the late Marine Corporal James C. Maiato and Mary C. Roberts and her husband Mark. He also leaves several nieces and nephews.
Arrangements are with Smith Funeral & Memorial Services, 8 Schoolhouse Road. A Mass of Christian burial was held Tuesday, Sept. 10, in St. Thomas the Apostle Church, 500 Metacom Ave., Warren.
