Born in Los Angeles, he was the son of George James Anderson II and the late Rose Maxine (Vetterli) Anderson.
Mr. Anderson was a graduate of Millbree, Calif., High School, the College of San Matteo and San Jose State College. He worked for Raytheon Submarine Signal Division and retired from Verizon Business. His memberships include Grace Episcopal Church in Providence, Norton Country Club, Rhody Fly Tyers, United Fly Tyers of RI, the Briggs Beach Assoc. and the Jim McPhail Mem’l and Elaine Star Lighters Bowling Leagues of East Providence (Jim was proud of bowling two 300 games). He was an avid outdoorsman and gardener.
Besides his wife and father, Jim leaves his children, Derek (Julie) Anderson and Laurie Anderson; granddaughters Tessa and Maeve Anderson; a sister, Janis Furman; and several nieces and nephews.
A funeral service will be celebrated on Thursday, Nov. 29. at 11 a.m. in Grace Episcopal Church, 175 Mathewson St., Providence, followed by interment in Rehoboth Cemetery, Rehoboth, Mass. In lieu of flowers, memorial gifts may be directed to Yankee Golden Retriever Rescue, P.O. Box 808, Hudson, MA 01749-0808. Arrangements entrusted to J.H.
