Born in Pawtucket, he was the son of the late Herbert F. and Beulah V. (Field) Wordell. Mr. Wordell was a draftsman for various government contractors. He was a veteran of the Vietnam War serving in the Army. A graduate of Josephine Wilbur School, he attended Northeastern University in Boston.
He was also a member of the Little Compton Volunteer Fire Department and the Little Compton Game Club. James was a founder of the Little Compton Senior Men’s Tennis League and played softball in many leagues for several years.
Including his wife, survivors include three sons, Brian Sylvester and his wife Heather of Coventry, Christopher Sylvester of Johnston, and Michael Sylvester of Warwick; two daughters, Jenn Wordell of Bedford, Texas, and Elizabeth Moreira and her husband David of Berkley, Mass.; a brother, Robert M. Wordell of Florida; nine grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
He was the brother of the late Leila Larcher, Donald Wordell and Elizabeth Newberry.
