Born in Barrington she was the daughter of the late Emanuel and Esther May (Barrows) Winterbottom.
Ila was a wonderful mother who enjoyed spending time with her family and traveling extensively around the world. She was the treasurer of St. Matthews Church for 25 years, where she was the second-oldest member.
Besides her husband she is survived by one son, Douglas Johnston of Barrington; two daughters, Judith Germain of Holyoke, Mass. and Deborah White of Newport; one sister, Marvis Ford of Barrington; seven grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.
Calling hours for Ila will be held on Friday from 4 to 7 p.m. in the Smith-Mason Funeral Home, 398 Willett Ave., Riverside. A funeral service will be held on Saturday at 11 a.m. at Sts. Matthews and Mark Church, 5 Chapel Road, Barrington. Burial will follow in Forest Chapel Cemetery.
