Hope Nelson Miller (Cote) Monahan, a resident of Daytona Beach, Fla. passed away peacefully on March 16, 2013. Born a Bristolian, she was the daughter of Leo George and Hope Miller Cote and was predeceased by her brother George Cote.
A resident of Bristol from birth until retiring to Florida, she maintained many close relations with her many Rhode Island friends. Hope was a 1932 graduate of ColtMemorialHigh School and graduated from Katherine Gibbs in 1934. For many years she was employed as a secretary and stenographer, notably at American Tourister, Bristol Yachts and Pearson Yachts.
Hope is survived by her children, Hope (Betsey) Davis of Kennewick, Washington and Joe Monahan and wife Barbara Bell of Bristol. She is also survived by her loving grandchildren Hope Whitney Davis of Bristol and David Davis of Idaho. Hope deeply loved and was totally devoted to her family and friends and has a particular fondness for her great grandchildren, Hope Somer, Ian and Cassiday Mc Cord. She also leaved her incredibly devoted care givers, Anne Spangler, Janice Silvia and Gisela Remieres.
A Mayflower descendant and names for revolutionary war soldier, Nelson Miller, Hope was proud of her family heritage, but always prouder for the successes of friends and family. She was a member of the Daughters of the American Revolution, (DAR), the Palmetto Club of Daytona Beach and a past member of the Halifax River Yacht Club, where she enjoyed the company of many wonderful friends. Hope was a popular choice for Bridge partner, was a true master of the game Spite and Malice, but best remembered for her ability to have great fun with others.
Hope has brought her family and friends, eternal joy, for through her eyes we’ve seen the best of ourselves.
