Hannah L. “Nancy” (Sebree) Hanks, age 97, of Swansea, Mass. and formerly of Barrington, died peacefully on Sunday, April 14, 2013, surrounded by her family. She was the beloved wife of the late Julian T. Hanks.
She was the mother of: Susan Harkins and her husband Charles of Barrington, Robert L. Hanks and his wife Lee of East Greenwich, Richard C. Hanks and his wife Diane of Swansea, and the late Julianne Hanks. She is also survived by many grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Born in Warren, the daughter of the late Carl and Hannah (Sanders) Sebree, she lived in the Touisset section of Swansea for the last 44 years. Before retiring in 1980, Mrs. Hanks worked at Brown University, Barrington College and Providence Washington Insurance Company. She was a former member of St. Mark’s Church in Riverside and St. John’s Church in Barrington. Hannah was dedicated to her family and loved to vacation. A highlight of her life included a 1965 visit from her British cousin Lady Mandeville and her husband Viscount Mandeville who, in their later years, became the 11th Duke and Duchess of Manchester.
Visiting hours will be Saturday, April 20, from 2 to 4:15 p.m., followed by a Prayer Service at 4:15 p.m. in the Waring-Sullivan Home of Memorial Tribute at Birchcrest, 189 Gardners Neck Rd. Swansea.
