He was born to Bernice (Dupuis) Matta and the late George Matta Sr. He leaves behind his beloved mother Bernice (Dupuis) Matta of Tucson Az.; his daughter Jennifer M. Matta of Rumford, and son Michael G. Matta of Tiverton; as well as his sisters, Suzanne (Matta) Caswell of Swansea, Mass., and Gail (Matta) Hansen of Tucson, Az. George will also be deeply missed by Frances (Cipriano) Matta of Little Compton, and many loving family members and friends.
George was a graduate of Southern Massachusetts University, an Airman First Class in the United States Air Force, was the director of wine sales at Central Beverage Corporation, and the former president and founder of Best Beverage Corporation.
His family and friends will remember and miss his award winning personality, sense of humor, generosity, and tender heart. He was also an avid lover of all animals great and small.
A memorial service in his honor will be held on Sunday, Sept. 29, at Colt State Park’s Chapel by the Sea in Bristol at 11 a.m.
A celebration of his life will immediately follow at Bacaro Restaurant, 262 South Water Street in Providence,.
In lieu of flowers, donations in his name can be made to The Providence Animal Rescue League or Home and Hospice Care of R.I.
