George Lewis, 79, Westport

GeorgeLewisGeorge Lewis, 79, of Westport, died peacefully at home on Saturday, Jan. 12, 2013, with his family by his side. He was the husband of Mary L. (Ringuette) Lewis.

Born in Westport, son of the late Manuel A. and Mary C. (Rogers) Lewis, he was a lifelong resident of the town.  He was a communicant of St. John the Baptist Church.

Mr. Lewis was a heavy equipment operator for the Westport Highway Department and was the working foreman for the last six years of his employment until his retirement in 1996.  He enjoyed woodworking and was a member of the Knights of Columbus Council #4373 and the Holy Ghost Club, both of Westport.

In addition to his wife he is survived by three sons, David G. Lewis of Fall River, Wayne A. Lewis of Somerset and Bruce J. Lewis of Westport; a brother, Seraphine “Fenny” Lewis of Dartmouth; a sister, Mary G. Priest of Westport; four grandchildren; five great grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.  He was the brother of the late Georgianna Lewis.

A Memorial Mass will be held at St. John the Baptist Church, Westport on Saturday, Jan. 26, 2013 at 10 a.m.  Interment will be private.  At his request, calling hours are respectfully omitted.  In lieu of flowers donations may be made in his memory to Westport Ambulance Gift Fund, P.O.
