Felice “Phil”Michael Petrarca, 88, formerly of Little Compton, passed Friday, Aug. 30, 2013, at Village House Nursing in Newport. He was the husband of the late Margaret (Winters) Petrarca to whom he was married for 50 years at her passing. He was the son of the late Giovanni and Sarafina (Lancellotti) Petrarca.
Phil was a graduate of Bryant College, now Bryant University. He was a tax auditor for the RI Department of Taxation for 25 years before retiring. For many years, he owned a shoe store with his brother Mario at Six Conners, East Providence.
He was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II, member of the Knights of Columbus, past Grand Knight of Finnegan Council #111 of Providence, and lay deacon with the Catholic Church, and member of Circle of Friends of Little Compton Community Center. Phil loved spaghetti and meatballs.
He was the father of Joseph (Denise) of Burlington, Vt., Peter (Laurie) of New Bedford, Mary Petrarca of Jamestown; grandfather of Sarah, Hannah, and Dominic Petrarca; brother of Camela DeMeo of North Providence, Anna Regine of Cranston, Anthony Petrarca of Ohio, Elio (Eli) Petrarca of North Providence, and the late Mario, Leonard, Raphael, Fernando Petrarca, and Philomena Heagney.
His funeral will be held Wednesday at 8:30 a.m. at the Fern Acres Funeral Home, 72 Willow Avenue, Little Compton, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 10 a.m. at St. Catherine of Siena Church on The Commons. Burial will be at Our Lady of Fatima Cemetery, Little Compton.
