Dr. Virgilio Zanin, 77, of Westport died peacefully with his loving family by his side on Tuesday, Oct. 22, 2013, at Brigham & Women’s Hospital, Boston. He was the beloved husband of Barbara (Schmitt) Zanin.
Born in Rivamonte (Belluno) Italy, son of the late Fortunato and Laura (Angoletta) Zanin, he had lived in Westport since 1970. Dr. Zanin was a sociology professor at UMass, Dartmouth from 1971 until his retirement in 2008.
Including his wife, survivors include two sons, Michael W. Zanin and his wife Lori of Westport, and Mark V. Zanin and his wife Donna of Darien, Conn.; a brother, Emilio G. Zanin of California; two sisters, Marga Troy of Hartford, Conn., and Sr. Antonia Zanin of Italy; eight grandchildren, Heather, Alyssa, Matteo, Alexander, Montana, Cooper, Trevor and Kyle; two great grandchildren, Nicholas and Leah; and several nieces and nephews.
Arrangements are under the direction of the Potter Funeral Home, 81 Reed Road, Westport.
