Born in Bristol, a son of the late John T. Francis III and Maria (Pacheco) Francis, he was a lifelong area resident. Mr. Francis was employed as a heavy equipment operator with Fairlawn Excavating in Warren for many years until his retirement. He was a member of the New England Tractor and Truck Association and the Local #4 Operation Engineers. Mr. Francis enjoyed his passion for remodeling and restoring tractors, also gardening, and spending time in New Hampshire. He shared many years with his companion Lorraine Barba.
Surviving are Lorraine Barba of Warren; two sons, Daniel Francis Jr. and his wife Kristen and David “Bucky” Francis both of Warren; three daughters, Mary Lee Cardoza and her husband David, Sheryle Mendoza, widow of James, Paula Dallaire and her husband Steven, all of Warren; two brothers, Joseph and David Francis of Bristol; two sisters Elizabeth Aguiar and Rita Crabtree of Bristol; 10 grandchildren, two step-grandchildren, six great-grandchildren, two step-great grandchildren and many nieces and nephews. He was the brother of the late John Francis, Margo Craig and Veronica Tavares.
Arrangements are in the care of Smith Funeral and Memorial Services, where the family will receive friends Tuesday, May 14, 2013 from 4 to 8 p.m., with his funeral service beginning at 6 p.m. in the funeral home.
