Amancio “Amos” Moniz Pires, 61, of Bristol

obit-Pires, AmosAmancio “Amos” Moniz Pires, 61, of Mt. Hope Ave. passed away on January 2nd.  He was the husband of Venilde (Botelho) Pires. Born in Pico da Pedra, Sao Miguel, Acores, he was the son of Guilherme and Maria da Conceicao (Moniz) Pires.

Amos was a self-employed carpenter. He was a member of the Santissima Trinidade serving as a Mordomo and as president from 2000 to 2001. He is survived by his wife Venilde; children Amos Pires, Jr. and Matthew David Pires and his father Guilherme. He was the brother of Eduarda Almeida, Gorette Teixeira, Mary Pires and Paula Bucci.

His funeral services were held January 5th from the George Lima Funeral Home 367 High St with a Mass of Christian Burial celebrated by Rev Scott Pontes at St. Elizabeth Church. Liturgical readings were by Eduardo Papoila who also gave the eulogy. The Prayer of the Faithful was read by Rita Medeiros and the offertory gifts were presented by Amos Pires, Jr., Matthew and Venilde Pires. Burial followed in North Burial Ground. Serving as pallbearers were Danny Texeira, Luis Medeiros, Jason Texeira, Roy Bucci, Eduardo Papoila and Antonio Medeiros.
