Hilda (Costa) Granger, formerly of Bristol, beloved wife of retired U.S. Coast Guard Commander James A. Granger, died at home in Poquoson, V.A. on Thursday, Jan. 26 2012, after a four-year struggle with Alzheimer’s Disease.
She is survived by her husband and their sons, James A. Granger II (wife Kim, son Ian, daughter Anya) of Chesapeake, V.A., and Jack A. Granger (wife Isma, daughter Bermuda) of Portsmouth, V.A. Other survivors are her sister, Amelia (Mrs. Joseph A.) Pacheco, and nephew, Joseph A. Pacheco Jr. (wife Heidi, daughters Hattie and Jaquie of Bristol), and niece, Teresa Ann (Pacheco) Hickey (husband Gary, son Michael) of Clifton Park, N.Y. She was predeceased by her parents and brother, Jack Costa, and former sister-in-law, Antonette (Etta) (Cicero) Costa Chantre.
At Hilda’s request, there will be no public viewing or services. Her remains will be buried in St. Mary’s Cemetery, Bristol, at a later date.
As a memorial, the family requests that donations be made in her memory to the Alzheimer’s Association, 6315 North Center Drive, Suite 233, Norfolk, VA 23502; or to Alzheimer’s Disease Research, 22512 Gateway Center Drive, Clarksburg, MD 20871. Amory Funeral Home of Grafton, V.A. is handling the arrangements.
