Joseph D. Silvia, 70, of 110 State St., Bristol, died unexpectedly Tuesday, Feb. 14, 2012. He was the husband of the late Jessica (Rapoza) Silvia, his wife of 33 years, who died this past July.
Born in Fall River, Mass., and a resident of Bristol for 33 years, he was a son of the late Arthur and Elizabeth (Cross) Silvia.
He was a Volcanizer machine operator for five years at the former Miner Industries in Bristol, retiring in 1988. He had previously worked as a machine operator for various factories in Fall River. He had served in the U.S. Army during peacetime. He was a communicant of Our Lady of Mount Carmel Church, Bristol.
He is survived by his father-in-law, Antone J. Rapoza of Bristol; a brother, Robert Silvia of Fall River; three sisters, Elizabeth Manchester of Somerset, Donna Mercer of Fall River, and Gladys Morin; and several nieces, nephews, great-nieces, and great-nephews.
Funeral services from the Sansone Funeral Home, 192 Wood St., Bristol, Saturday, Feb. 18, at 9 a.m., with a Mass of Christian burial at 10 a.m. in Our Lady of Mount Carmel Church, 141 State St., Bristol. Burial will follow in North Burial Ground, Hope Street, Bristol. Visiting hours are 5 to 7 p.m. on Friday.
