Richard W. Packer, 87, of Alfred Drowne Road, died peacefully on Sunday, Feb. 12, 2012 at home surrounded by his loving family. He was the beloved husband of Lillian M. (Grish) Packer.
Born in Brooklyn, NY, a son of the late August O. and Anna G. (Riggs) Packer, he lived in Barrington for 58 years. Mr. Packer was the former CEO of Dieges & Clust, a Providence based manufacturer. Richard was a graduate of Holy Cross College Class of 1949 and Fordham University School of Law Class of 1952.
Mr. Packer was a communicant of St. Luke’s Roman Catholic Church. Richard was Chairman of the Barrington School Committee from 1972-1976. He was a member of the Barrington Zoning Board of Review from 1981-1992. He was a member of the 1994 Barrington Charter Review Commission.
He was a U.S. Army veteran serving during World War II in Europe with the 104th Infantry Division. He was awarded the Purple Heart.
Besides his wife of 62 years, he is survived by his children, Dr. Thomas M. Packer D.M.D., Donald J. Packer Esq., Bobbie Anne (Packer) Bentsen, Karen M. (Packer) Perry, Richard A. Packer, L. Clare (Packer) Bianco; fourteen grandchildren and one great granddaughter.
His funeral will be held on Thursday, Feb. 16, from the W. Raymond Watson Funeral Home, 350 Willett Ave., Riverside at 8:45 a.m. with a Mass of Christian Burial in St. Luke Church, Washington Road, Barrington at 10 a.m. Burial with military honors will follow in Gate of Heaven Cemetery. Calling hours are Wednesday from 4 to 7 p.m. Flowers are respectfully omitted.
