David Manuel Loras, 81, of First School Street, Bristol, passed away on Jan. 31, 2012. He was the husband of the late Maria Leonor (Cordeiro) Loras.
Born in Povoacao, Sao Miguel, Azores, he was the son of the late Manuel Furtado Loras and Maria daGloria (Camara) Loras. David lived in Povoacao for 40 years and in Bristol for the other half of his life, where he was a boat builder for Pearson Yachts for many years.
He is survived by his children, Maria Leonor Creador and Cisela “Sandy” Fox of Bristol, Valdemiro Furtado Loras of Ponta Delgada, Ana Isabel Pereira of Utica, N.Y., Cleofa Rodrigues of Swansea, Antonio Loras of Bristol, and Lisa Cardillo of Whitesboro, N.Y.; 17 grandchildren; 9 great-grandchildren; and sisters, Esmeralda Borges of Bristol, and Veneranda Loras Maia of Povoacao. He was the brother of the late Hortenca Furtado.
Funeral services were held Feb. 3 from the George C. Lima Funeral Home, with a Mass of Christian burial celebrated by Rev. Scott Pontes at St. Elizabeth Church. Liturgical readings were by Sonia Rodrigues and Ashley Fox, and the offertory gifts were presented by Meaghan Loras Carotenuti, Courtney Rodrogues, Brianna Loras and Miranda Cardillo. Eulogist was Nelson Fox. Burial was in St. Mary’s Cemetery, Bristol. Serving as pallbearers were Jason Creador, Andrew Loras, Wilson Fox, Derek Creador, Shawn Loras and Gary Pereira.
