Write-in effort underway for Gagnon in East Providence Ward 4 race

EAST PROVIDENCE — Written about in the comments section of a story here at www.eastbayri.com and other websites, a write-in effort for Robert “Bob” Gagnon in the East Providence Ward 4 City Council race is underway, albeit without much not knowledge from the man himself.

“I have no feeling, no thoughts. I really don’t know,” Mr. Gagnon said late Tuesday morning on the phone while at work.

“I don’t know who started it. I don’t know why. I actually think it’s kind of funny,” he added.

With the departure of incumbent Michael DiGioia from the campaign just prior to the primary it was assumed his only confirmed competitor in the Riverside section of the city, current School Committee member Chrissy Rossi, would win the seat without opposition.

It’s likely she will still do so. However, much like the rest of the city, there’s a known split among the Ward 4 Democratic Committee, Mrs. Rossi on one side and some, like Mr. Gagnon, on the other, which makes the write-in attempt plausible if unlikely to succeed.

“I have no opinion,” Mr. Gagnon added of the situation. “I found out about it this morning. I really don’t know what to make of it.”
