The Fire Department has run Westport’s Fourth of July Parade, the Lions Club did for awhile — now maybe it’s the town’s turn.

That was one suggestion from Fire Chief Brian Legendre to the Board of Selectmen Monday. Selectmen did not take him up on that invitation but did agree that the parade faces cost challenges going forward.

The problem, Chief Legendre said, is that costs for the parade continue to rise at a time his department already faces budget challenges. Those costs include liability insurance.

Selectmen said they will consider the matter further and welcome ideas from any group interested in helping out.
