A Westport woman will remain free on bail pending a Feb. 15 pre-trail on charges that she ran down and killed a man in Westport on Old Bedford Road near Adirondack Lane.
The Attorney General’s office reports that a New Bedford Superior Court judge set bail at $5,000 cash for Hazel Teague White, 49, of 8 William St., Westport, after her arraignment Friday. She faces charges of vehicular homicide, manslaughter, and manslaughter by motor vehicle.
Westport Police reported that Ms. White drove her vehicle into John Monsam, 67, of Sutton, Mass., at around 5:30 p.m.on April 23.
The two had been together in the car when Mr. Monsam got out and started walking along the sidewalk. Ms. White allegedly drove the car at him from behind, striking him to the ground and causing fatal head injuries. He was rushed to Rhode Island Hospital where he was pronounced dead. Ms. White told police that she and Mr. Monsam had been to Twin Rivers casino earlier in the day and that there had been an argument.
As conditions for bail, the judge ordered that Ms. White not drive or use drugs or alcohol, that she submit to random urine tests, and that she have no contact with anyone who has ties to Mr. Monsam.
