Westport to remember lost soldiers, sailors on Memorial Day

Westport will honor all who died while serving in the U.S. armed forces on Memorial Day, Monday, May 27, with a memorial services and a parade.

The day’s schedule will be:

8 a.m.: Gather at VFW W.A.&R Ouellette Post 8502 located at 843 State Road.

8:15 a.m.: A.L. James Morris Post 145 located at 489 Sanford Road.

8:30 a.m.: Latessa Square on Tickle Road in memory of Andre Roland Latessa and all Westport residents killed during service in Vietnam.

9 a.m.: Wreath laying at Fontaine Bridge, named after Spec. Normand Edward Fontaine, who was killed on the line of duty during the Vietnam War.

9:10 a.m.: Westport Point on Main Road — flower bouquet to honor those who perished at sea.

9:30 a.m.: The group returns to Town Hall, 856 Main Road, where the  parade marshal will assemble the parade.

10 a.m.: Westport Memorial Day Parade steps off.

10:15 – 10:30 a.m.: Beech Grove Cemetery at Veterans Memoriam Plot to honor and remember those who died while serving in the United States Armed Forces.

10:15 – 10:30 a.m.: Beech Grove Cemetery site in memory of Michael A. Bono, Westport resident who served in the U.S. Army with the 501st Airborne in Iraq and was stationed at Camp Merril Dahlonega, Georgia.

11– 11:15 a.m.: Town Hall, 856 Main Road, WW I Memorial.

A wreath is also to be placed sometime early in the morning at Maple Grove Cemetery.
