A weeks-long Westport Police investigation culminating in a Wednesday evening traffic stop led to two arrests and the seizure of 140 bags of heroin.

Detective Antonio Cestodio said that police were watching when a 2002 Nissan Maxima exited Route 195 east onto Sanford Road. Officers said the car failed to stop at a stop sign before turning left onto Old Bedford Road at which point they pulled it over.

The probe, led by Westport officer Bryan McCarthy, had targeted Christopher Lord, 29, of 298 Old Bedford Road, Westport, and his friend Joshua Jordan, 29 of 1 Chestnut Street, Westport. The investigation “involved numerous hours of surveillance where the men had met with buyers near the suspect’s home.”

Mr. Jordan was driving the car when it was stopped; Mr. Lord was in the passenger seat. Police said that a search of Mr. Lord located 10 bags of heroin, commonly called a bundle, inside his jacket pocket. Officers also found another 130

bags of heroin inside he vehicle.

The Nissan was seized as proceeds of the drug trade, Det. Cestodio said, along with some cash that was believed to be connected to the men’s alleged. drug sales operation.

Westport Police ask that anyone who witnesses suspicious activity  to contact the police department.  Officers from the department’s Community Action Team have been targeting problem areas in town in response to ongoing issues with illegal narcotics.

Both men were arrested and charged with possession of a Class A substance (heroin) with the intent to distribute and conspiracy to violate the drug laws.
