The town election on April 9 has two contested races and a ballot question on the elected versus appointed highway surveyor position. Westport residents are invited to participate in the Candidates Night on Thursday, March 28, at 7 p.m. in the High School auditorium and to ask questions of the candidates and about the ballot question.
Residents will learn more about the three candidates who are running for the two available School Committee seats, about the three candidates running for the two available Trustees of the Free Public Library places and the opposing opinions on whether the highway surveyor should be elected or appointed. The unopposed candidates for other town positions will briefly introduce themselves.
School Committee candidates are incumbent Michelle Duarte, the current chair; Nancy Rioux, school psychologist in New Bedford; and Melissa Pacheco, corporate relations, University of Mass Dartmouth. The Trustees candidates are Robert Gormley, current chair; Andrew Gaboury, writer; and Sharon Hanover, educator.
The ballot question will be presented by advocates for both the appointed highway surveyor and the elected highway surveyor. The audience will have the opportunity to ask questions in writing.Add to favorites
