Warren’s quahog, arts festival this weekend

quahogsThings will be downright clammy at Burr’s Hill this weekend, when the Warren Barrington Rotary Club holds its annual Quahog Festival at the waterfront park Saturday and Sunday.
The weathermen are predicting scorching weekend, but organizers hope that southwest summer breezes — as well as beer, wine, soda, ice cream and plenty of water — will keep things cool for the several thousand spectators expected this year.
Officially known as the Quahog, Seafood and Art Festival, the two-day event features New England fare including clamboils, stuffies, lobster, clamcakes, chowder, little necks, lobster salad, crabcakes, calamari and more. With native corn now coming into season, there will also be fresh corn on the cob, as well as other delicacies — hot dogs, burgers, sausage and peppers and more.
There are no pets allowed, but kids are welcome. For them, there will be a moonwalk, pony rides, bungee jumping and a “rock” wall. At the same time, there will be a juried art exhibition with more than 40 artists’ represented. Music will keep the festival going from start to finish.
Though there is still construction equipment onsite, left over from the recent upgrade of the Burr’s Hill and Warren Town Beach areas, the festival will be unaffected. Parking is available on nearby streets.
The festival runs from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. Saturday, July 20, and Sunday, July 21, from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m.
