Warren’s Earth Day cleanup is Saturday

2013 Warren Earth Day T

2013 Warren Earth Day TEvery day is Earth Day in Warren. This Saturday? Even more so.
While preservationists tour downtown buildings and parks as part of the statewide preservation conference, and while Little Leaguers start their summer off with a parade and full host of games, volunteers on Team Earth will spread out around Warren, cleaning its nooks and crannies, its quiet corners and dusty alleys.
The annual cleanup, traditionally held the week after the official celebration of Earth Day, is run every year from a staging area at the Pete Sepe Pavilion, and that will be the case this year as well. Dozens of volunteers are needed to clean trash from town beaches, parks, roadsides and wooded areas. In return, they’ll get a sense of satisfaction, a “Thank You” from organizers and just as good, a free T-Shirt and food. Cliff Prazeres, who owns many Dunkin Donuts locations in the area, is again helping to sponsor the cleanup and has donated not just funds, but baked goodies for all volunteers.
This year’s shirts were designed by Warren artist Richard Kaiser. To get yours, show up at the Pete Sepe Pavilion at 9 a.m., sign in, grab some coffee and pick up clean-up bags. From there, get your assignment (or specify where you’d like to clean) and head out. There will also be a hot dog roast at the pavilion at noon. Don’t forget to wear comfortable clothes that you don’t mind dirtying, and bring a pair of tough work gloves.
