Warren to install guard at tricky S-curve

The Town of Warren will soon put up a guardrail at a tight S-curve after an accident and subsequent complaint by a resident.
The S-curve at the intersection of Canario and Ridgeway drives could be considered a tricky spot, Warren Police Chief Peter Achilli told the Warren Town Council Tuesday night, so he recommended a guardrail be installed. Councilors unanimously agreed.
Chief Achilli and the town’s traffic safety committee, made up of him, DPW head John Massed, fire chief Al Galinelli and town planner Caroline Wells, agreed earlier this summer that a guardrail should go in at the site, following a request by a Garden Street resident. Her request came after an accident within the past year, in which a car failed to negotiate the sharp corner and ended up in a back yard.
The only thing that’s left to determine is what the rail will be made of. The committee recommended it be made of wood for aesthetic reasons, but the town’s attorney plans to check with Rhode Island Interlocal Risk Management Trust, the town’s insurer, to see if that’s acceptable. If not, it will be made of metal.
