For the first time in years, there are vacant slips at the Town Wharf, which is usually so popular a waiting list is needed to get a spot. But this year is different Warren Harbormaster Matt Calouro said.
“We had some cancellations, people left and we were expecting that,” but people on the waiting list backed out, he said.
“A lot more people are trailering their boats these days.”
Slips — there are 15 commercial town slips adjacent to Blount Fine Foods, and 25 recreational slips at the Town Wharf at 279 Water St. — are a significant source of revenue for the town. Filled, the slips usually bring in about $40,000 per year for the town. The two open spots at the Town Wharf can accommodate boats up to about 32 feet, and cost $2,250 for the season, which ends in mid to late-autumn. They come with shore power, water and pumpout facilities.
