Warren’s town planner is officially an award winner.

Caroline Wells was recently awarded the Blueways Stewardship Award from the Rhode Island Blueways Alliance, an organization dedicated to developing water “trail” networks linking Rhode Island’s rivers, lakes and ponds to Narragansett Bay. Ms. Wells, who has sought to develop a kayak and canoe blueway along the upper Kickemuit River for more than a year, was given the award for her work and for helping out with the ExploreRI website. She did the website work on behalf of the Kickemuit River Council and the Warren Planning Board’s Fred Massie, who knows the Kickemuit well. She received help from Mr. Massie, as well as Jane Harrison and Linda Brunini.

The Blueways Stewardship Award was created in 2010 to recognize individuals who exemplify dedication to the stewardship and conservation of Rhode Island’s rivers, lakes and coastal waters, and those who have helped further water quality monitoring and protection, developed trails on water, promoted land use that protects waterways, or worked to make connections between watershed conservation and their community.

Past recipients the Rhode Island Audubon Society’s Eugenia Marks and Frank Matta of the Blackstone River Watershed Council/Friends of the Blackstone.
