Warren has evacuated dozens of dogs and cats from the town’s animal shelter on Wood Street, which lies at low ground and is prone to flooding during storms. The animals have been taken to the Liberty Street School, where Warren Fire Chief Al Galinelli joked they’ll be happy: “The cats are on one side, the dogs are on the other.”

• The Kickemuit River is already extremely high, as a photo taken by Laurel Park resident Molly Berardi attests. It’s expected to get higher, too, as the winds are expected to swing into the south this afternoon and evening just as high tide crests.

• Warren officials shut down the town’s emergency shelter at noon Monday, after getting word from the American Red Cross that there is a regional shelter open in Barrington, at the Primrose Hill School. Kickemuit may still see use, though, if officials decide to evacuate the Grace Barker Nursing Home on the upper Kickemuit River. Chief Galinelli said his crews will help transport residents if the decision is made to evacuate them, but he’d rather it happen soon than tonight, when the weather is going to be even rougher.

• Warren residents who want to evacuate their homes should head to Primrose Hill School; those who can’t make it on their own should call the police department at 245-1311; from there, emergency management volunteers will take over and drive residents out.

• The first downed tree spotted by a Warren reporter Monday was spotted around 12:30 p.m. on Laurel Lane. No damage was done to the home.
