Trees begin to fall in Barrington

The first trees have started to fall as Hurricane Sandy readies for landfall.

Late Monday morning, a large tree came down across County Road just before the rotary at Washington Road.

After police pushed the tree to the side of the road, Dave O’Connor, a tree contractor, was on hand chopping up limbs to take it away.

“It’s not terrible. I don’t mind it. It’s kind of wild, watching the storm,” said Mr. O’Connor as the rain picked up Monday afternoon.

Mr. O’Connor also said he expects tree removal contractors and companies to have a busy few days on the horizon.

“We’re going to have a lot of work. A ton of work,” he said.

Mr. O’Connor said he anticipates the first couple of days will be spent dealing with emergencies while the later days of the week will be clean-up.

“Work is money,” Mr. O’Connor said.

“But it’s tough for other people. I don’t want to see the power go out.”
