EAST PROVIDENCE — The 10-Mile River Bridges over North Broadway in East Providence carried their first traffic in just about a year Friday morning, Nov. 16, as the busy stretch of road reopened after significant upgrades.

Traffic flows over the just reopened 10-Mile River Bridges on North Broadway Friday, Nov. 16.

Originally scheduled to reopen in late 2013, the Rhode Island Department of Transportation worked with its contractor to reduce the closure to less than one year.

The bridges, which cover North Broadway over the river and another small stream, were closed late last year because of deterioration found during a scheduled inspection. Through a $2.8 million contract with D’Ambra Construction of Warwick, RIDOT completely replaced the superstructures on both bridges.
