St. Nick prepares to leave the Portsmouth fire station at the start of last year’s rounds.

PORTSMOUTH — Santa Claus is warming up the Farmall (or John Deere) in preparation for his first evening trips through Portsmouth. Barring bad weather, he’s scheduled to start this Saturday, Dec, 1.

His first night’s runs will be from the fire station to the far reaches of Common Fence Point (north) and along the west shore from the Abbey south toward Debra Drive … (Don’t ask how — he’s magic).

Santa and his helpers take Sundays off to rest.
