Tiverton police: attempted boat theft thwarted

Monday, Sept. 24

After a friend of the boat’s owner reported at 4:15 p.m. that a man was spotted allegedly attempting to load an aluminum boat into the back of his SUV near the Seapowet Bridge, David Souza, 52, of Westport, was charged with attempted larceny under $500.

Police recognized George Stephan St. Pierre, 50, of Fall River, on Main Road and charged him under a 2nd District bench warrant with failure to pay.

At 7:08 p.m., Craig Nascimento, 30, of Fall River, was charged with passing a fraudulent check for $308.50 as a result of a complaint filed with police in 2008.

Tuesday, Sept. 25

After she was stopped on Sept 15 while walking along Ethan Way in Tiverton, Kristen L. DaCosta, 31, of North Dartmouth, admitted to, and was charged on Sept. 25 at 11:07 a.m. with, breaking and entering a nearby dwelling. She was also charged as a fugitive from Massachusetts in connection with numerous housebreaks in New Bedford.

At 12:25 p.m., Edward Duarte Abrantes Jr., 29, of 40 Fairfield Avenue, Tiverton, was charged with breaking and entering a place of business, after allegedly taking metal items from his employer’s business and selling them to a Westport scrap metal yard, which videotaped him doing so. Mr. Abrantes admitted what he had done to police.

At 5:34 p.m., Jason M. Morreira, 27, of 37 Pershing Avenue, Tiverton, was charged under warrant issued from the 6th District Court in connection with a Superior Court warrant.

At 11:41 p.m., Sean C. Lauffer, 26, of Seekonk, was charged with domestic vandalism, after he allegedly smashed a ceramic item during an argument, and with possession of scheduled drugs (3.5 oxycodone pills).

Thursday, Sept. 27

Christopher Destremps, 18, of 132 Kearns Avenue, Tiverton, was charged aty 9:09 a.m. with disorderly conduct, in connection with a disturbance at Tiverton High School, and with breaking and entering, to which he admitted.

Saturday, Sept. 29

Raymond R. Pires, 51, of Bristol, was charged at 12:16 a.m. with disorderly conduct and felony assault with a dangerous weapon (a baseball bat), and resisting arrest, in connection with a fight at the Holy Ghost Club on Bottom Street. A companion, Patricia Duquette, 50, of Fall River, was charged at 12:34 a.m. with simple assault and disorderly conduct arising out of the same incident.

At 6:33 p.m., Matthew Abrantes, 22, of Westport, was charged with possession of a scheduled drug (41 alprazolam pills), after he was stopped on Route 24 for not wearing a seat belt.

Sunday, Sept. 30

An officer recognized David L. Truver, 29, of 20 Main Road, Apt. 1FL, talking with someone at a Main Road address, and charged him under a 2nd District Court bench warrant and with violation of a no contact order obtained by the person he was talking with.
