The three will attend a community forum tis Thursday, Feb. 27, at 6 p.m. in the Westport Elementary School Media Center. They will have a half hour each to introduce themselves and take questions from the audience.
The finalists are:
• Christine Panarese is the principal of the Decas Elementary School in Wareham where she has worked since 2010. Prior to that, she was a principal at the Luther Elementary School in Swansea.
She holds a bachelor’s degree in special education and psychology from Bridgewater State College. She received her master’s in education with a minor in mathematicsa curriculum from Curry College. Her certificate of advanced graduate study in education administration was earned at Bridgewater State College and she is enrolled in the doctoral program at Boston College.
In her cover letter she states that her “vast experience with in-depth data analysis of student assessments, school and district performance data and the individual progress monitoring of students’ interventions have allowed the remedy of three schools whose MCAS scores were lagging. As a data driven educational administrator, I have advocated for and implemented the Response to Intervention (RtI) and the Positive Behavioral Intervention Supports (PBIS) processes in my present school district. Students with special needs have benefited from protocols that I have put into place such as only hiring educators who are dually certified in special education and a content area. My mathematics training and teaching experiences have provided me with a strong foundation to create supported, strategic initiatives that ensure successful as well as rigorous learning experiences for all students inside the regular education classroom.”
• Timothy Plante has been employed in the Acushnet Public Schools for the past ten years. He began as an assistant principal and then as the principal of the middle school. For the last five years he has been the principal of the elementary school. Mr. Plante also works as an adjunct professor at American International College. He has served a coach in the Westport Community Schools since 1997 in such sports as boys’ basketball, boys’ soccer and boys’ and girls’ cross country.
He received his bachelor’s degree at Bridgewater State College, majoring in physical education and minoring in health. He received his master’s in education from Cambridge College in school administration.
In his cover letter he states, “I believe that education is the key to success for young students. As an administrator, I hope to motivate students in ascertaining their inner strengths and abilities and discovering what truly inspires them. I aim to provide a stimulating learning environment that encourages students to trust their opinions, while fostering confidence in order for students to realize their full potential. Through my teaching experience thus far, I have found the method of facilitating rather than dictating to be highly beneficial style of teaching. I have found that if students construct their own learning experiences, they will not only retain information longer, but they will also become more confident in their abilities. Being devoted to this assertion confirms that I have made the right career choice for myself. I love working with children and will continue to strive to be a positive influence in their lives.”
Christine Staskiewicz has been employed in the Westport Community Schools since 1986. She has worked as an elementary guidance counselor, a teacher in grades 2-4, an elementary school assistant principal and most recently as the acting principal of the Westport Elementary School.
She received her master’s in education from Providence College, and her certificate of advanced graduate studies in educational administration from Boston University.
In her cover letter she states, “I am an excellent candidate for the position; having been the assistant principal at WES for the past two and a half years has allowed me a keen insight into the essential components of the daily workings of an elementary school. During the past four months I have assumed many administrator responsibilities at WES, from opening school for the start of the new school year, to overseeing the daily operations at WES. Establishing stronger relationships with WES families and providing stability and leadership to the students and staff at WES have been my utmost priorities. I have continued to be instrumental in curriculum development as it aligns to the Common Core Curriculum, utilizing UBD and curriculum mapping to increase rigor and fidelity in daily instruction. The ELA and Math Intervention Staff have implemented a tiered instruction block and with my encouragement and support have successfully maintained a schedule that ensures all students are receiving “what they need” in all tiers of instruction. Through collaboration and professional development in District Determined Measures, myself along with the input of all teaching staff identified DDMs for WES. In addition continuing to utilize the Educator Evaluation system has helped to maintain the mission of our school as a professional learning community utilizing goal setting and alignment to the professional standards to drive instruction and increase student performance.”
