EAST PROVIDENCE — Maybe call it a case of “Bonnie and Clyde” out on a spree along with their “Uncle Fester.” Three suspects from Fall River were arrested in connection to a pair of East Providence break-ins Monday, July 14: a husband and wife team along with an older man.
Michael Oliveira, 40, and Jennifer Oliveira, 38, both of 68 Webster Ave., Fall River, and John Tomaszewski, 56, of 24 Oak St., Fall River, were each charged with two counts of breaking-and-entering; intent to commit breaking-and-entering; and larceny for their alleged involvement in the events that took place in a pair of Pawtucket Avenue homes, according to East Providence Police Detective Captain Richard Frazier.
The situation unfolded after the suspects completed one robbery then were caught in the act of the second by the homeowner who arrived on scene to find two men in his residence. The suspects exited the house through the rear, fleeing on foot before entering a waiting red van being driven by a female.
The vehicle headed toward Warren Avenue then onto Interstate 195 East. At that point, according to Capt. Frazier, EPPD Detective Corporal Kevin Feeney witnessed the suspects cross into Massachusetts. State Police there picked up pursuit, finally able to stop the vehicle on Route 24 in Fall River.
The three suspects were taken into custody and held as fugitives from Rhode Island by Mass. State Police. The vehicle was impounded and returned to Rhode Island, where EPPD detectives found a number of items reported stolen in the two break-ins here as well as others that could be tied to as many as 10 other thefts in Massachusetts, Capt. Frazier said.
Both Mr. Oliveira and Mr. Tomaszewski have extensive criminal records, Capt. Frazier added. Mr. Tomaszewski was only recently released from a prison stint. Mrs. Oliveira has also had minor brushes with law enforcement, Capt. Frazier said.
