Warren Town Council member Cathie Tattrie surprised a few people when she voted at Monday night’s Financial Town Meeting to cut the Warren Tax Assessor’s salary in half to help offset the large tax increase that was ultimately passed by voters.
Friday, she said she voted to cut the assessor because she believes the position does not need to be filled on more than a part-time basis.
She voted to cut, she wrote in an e-mail to the Times, “because I honestly believe that for the size of our town, the majority what needs to get done by that office is seasonal in nature, and could be done with less hours over the course of the year.”

Ms. Tattrie voted alongside her fellow councilors against proposed cuts to the town planner, town clerk and building inspector positions, though she said if Warren prevails on a school funding suit currently in court, she would move to have those salaries restored.
Warren Tax Assessor Cathy Maisano earns $47,070 per year.

    ABSOLUTELY NOT!!!

    DO NOT RESTORE THOSE SALARIES!!!

How about putting the funds into what is needed most:

    Improvement to roads.
Improvement to Police & Fire Equipment.
    Improvement to our Parks.

And is there anything fundamentally wrong with lowering the tax bill overall?

Sell MVQ!! Unload that ancient Money-Sucking Building.
Turn the George Hail Library in to it’s own private 501c3 enterprise.

    WARREN IS UNAFFORDABLE!!!

There were some interesting responses to the last online
post about the recent FTM. Ms. Kee made wonderful sense and great points.also, the ” insanity” quote is so right on. I lived in warren for many years and my heart will always reside there. However, my sense of political indignation and inability to vote for people I no longer have faith in has lead me to a town across the line.
People of Warren- you have the right and choice to make improvements in who governs your town. Think clearly of your current situation on Election Day and stop the insanity! Perhaps Ben might be interested.. As least he is willing to speak out!
