LITTLE COMPTON — A house fire at 99 Round Pond Road Monday morning was put out within 30 to 45 minutes after firefighters arrived, said Little Compton Fire Chief Rick Petrin. The blaze was confined to one room and the attic.
The fire in the unoccupied residence, the chief said, was called in at about 6:30 a.m.
To fight the blaze, he said, the East Bay tanker task force was mobilized, comprised of tanker trucks from Little Compton, Westport, Tiverton, Warren, Portsmouth, and Middletown, that one after the other provided water to an engine that pumped it onto the blaze.
Chief Petrin estimates that 20 to 25 firefighters from the various towns were involved in the effort.
“It was a good-sized house,” he said, a summer home owned by residents who live in town. No firefighters were hurt in the effort. The cause of the fire is under investigation.
