EAST PROVIDENCE — As has often been the case in recent months, the state of the upgrades being made to the East Providence High School science labs was a major topic of discussion during the April 8 School Committee meeting held at City Hall.
City Facilities Manager Ed Catelli was once again at the podium to update the committee on the progress on the oft-delayed and changed project. He said drywall hanging and finishing is nearing completion. Also, plumbing and gas lines are being installed.
Painting of the two rooms is scheduled to begin on April 14. Drop ceilings are slated to be hung the following day. Lighting is to be installed on April 16 with roof/duct work to commence on April 17.
“Hopefully by the end of April we’ll be in really good shape,” Mr. Catelli added.
The $175,000 project has been beset by design changes and delays, which have hindered its completion in what might be considered a timely manner. Even with the progress made, it is not known whether students and teachers will be able to utilize the labs during the current term.
In addition to the science labs, repainting of the EPHS interior continues. Mr. Catelli said bathrooms are next scheduled for new coats of paint as are the various stairways in the building. Of note as well, new mirrors and partitions are slated to be hung in the bathrooms.
