A member of Ireland’s Parliament who represents the West Tyrone district for the Sinn Fein Party will speak at White’s of Westport this Saturday, March 16.
The occasion is the 72nd annual Friendly Sons of St. Patrick (New Bedford) dinner dance. The social hour starts at 5:30 p.m. and diner will be served at 6:30 p.m.
The Friendly Sons of St. Patrick say that keynote speaker Pat Doherty has been a Sinn Fein vice president and a leader in promoting and supporting the peace process in Northern Ireland since 1987, when he helped launch Sinn Fein’s current peace strategy.
Also that evening the Friendly Sons will present two awards:
• The Person of the Year award will be presented to Jim Stevens, CEO and founder of GiftsToGive, a New Bedford-based nonprofit that connects children to giving and service.
• The Friendly Sons Service and Achievement Award will be given to Daniel P. McCarthy, a longtime member of the Friendly Sons and race director of the New Bedford Half Marathon.
Tickets for the dinner dance are $35 and can be purchased by calling Chris Donnelly at 508-320-8388 or Fred Toomey at 508-985-8128.
