Two truck crashes, one involving a load of cranberry mash, kept police and firefighters busy Saturday
Police were called to Route 88 near Old County Road on Saturday morning, Oct. 12, for reports of a slippery red mess. A truck en route to a Westport farm had dumped a load of cranberry press debris in the road. The slick had to be sprayed away.
Heavy duty tow
Several tow trucks, one of them said to be among the country’s biggest, were called to Sodom Road near Narrow Avenue on Saturday, Oct. 12, at 8:30 a.m. to put a rolled-over dumpster truckback upright and haul it away. The road was closed for over four hours.The driver, who was headed to a local farm to deliver old produce, was familiar with the road but traveling too fast. The State Police truck team assisted Westport Officer Tara Souza in the investigation.
