New equipment and a grass area are the latest components of the Orlo Avenue Elementary School playground project to be installed.

EAST PROVIDENCE — The amazing transformation at Orlo Avenue Elementary School continues. A large play structure, including a swing set, was installed over the weekend of Sept. 21 to 23.

Over 100 volunteers helped Orlo Avenue School parents wherever it was needed, from painting the fence to rolling out and gluing the turf under the structure. This unselfish assistance from members of the community was truly inspiring for the Orlo children. Some of the volunteers have been with the Orlo PTA for the entire transformation and have taken on this project and done more than ever could have been imagined.

The Orlo Avenue PTA would like to sincerely thank all of the wonderful volunteers that helped make the dream of a playground at the school a reality. The parents, children and community of Orlo Avenue Elementary are forever grateful for your hard work and commitment to make this happen. Each of the volunteers will receive a note of thanks from the students at Orlo.
A few more projects need to be completed including the grass installation on Oct. 13 and an official ribbon cutting event will be scheduled for the spring of 2013.
The Orlo PTA was very fortunate to have a playground committee made up of parents, teachers and community volunteers. The significant amount of time these individuals have put into this project have resulted in an unbelievable transformation. A very special “Thank You” is extended to the playground committee: Izilda Teves, Cheryl Gibbs, Heather Foley, Sandra Lopes, Fatima Melo, Kristin Mendonca, Gina Quattrini Stephanie Caverly, Kelly Carlos, Erin Sladen, Anthony Ferreira and Freddy Rybka.
Thanks to that group and many more like them, the current and future children of Orlo will have this beautiful new playground and park to enjoy for many years to come.
