Great pumpkins in Warren

Residents from Warren to Westerly took time last Saturday to batten down in preparation for the arrival of Sandy. Over at the Wilbur-Romano Funeral Home, though, there was real work to be done: Pumpkin judging. Days earlier, funeral home employees brought 300 pumpkins to the Hugh Cole School with instructions for the kids to paint them and bring them back for the home’s first-ever “Pumpkin Palooza” decorating contest. On Saturday, third, fourth and fifth graders and their parents gathered at the home on Main Street to see the entries, and nine prizes were handed out: A first place Kindle tablet for each grade, a second place $50 gift certificate to Barnes and Noble, and a third place $30 gift certificate to Amazon. Shown here is fourth grader Kevin LeClair, with Wilbur-Romano’s Patricia Keefe at left and Brian Massarotti at right.
