LITTLE COMPTON —Wilbur & McMahon 4th grade teacher Dietra Medeiros has won the prestigious Golden Apple Award for excellence in teaching.
Little Compton School Superintendent Superintendent Kathryn Crowley said the award was handed out by Rhode island Commissioner of Education Deborah Gist and Channel 10 at a special school assembly in front of the entire student body Monday, April 22,, morning at 10 a.m., that was arranged as a complete surprise to Ms. Medeiros.
“The award is well-deserved, and recognizes Dietra Medeiros’ outstanding commitment to the children and the school,” Ms. Crowley said.
The award, which recognizes excellence in teaching, was initiated by a nomination made in a letter from a student, school officials said.
The Little Compton School Committee will also recognize Ms. Medeiros at its May meeting.
